Many students are wondering what jobs are considered green and how does one pursue a career in green industry. Basically jobs that produce goods and provide services that benefit the environment or conserve natural resources are considered green jobs. These goods and services are sold to customers, and include research and development, installation, and maintenance services.
Green goods and services mostly are consisted of five groups:
1. Energy from renewable sources. Whether it's electricity, heat, or fuel, it must be generated from renewable sources such as wind, biomass, geothermal, solar, ocean, hydropower, and landfill gas and municipal solid waste.
2. Energy efficiency. Products that have energy-efficient equipment, appliances, buildings, and vehicles, as well as products and services that improve the energy efficiency of buildings. A typical sample would be Smart Grid technologies.
3. Pollution reduction and removal, greenhouse gas reduction, and recycling and reuse. Any job that's related in waste material reduction, pollution reduction, and greenhouse gas reduction. Careers in waste water treatment is also included.
4. Conserve natural resources. Jobs in organic agriculture and sustainable forestry; land management; soil, water, or wildlife conservation; and stormwater management.
5. Jobs in training and educating the public about environmental compliance including enforcing environmental regulations and Increasing public awareness of environmental issues.
As you can see from the above, a career in green can span from many industry. Students who are interested in green jobs have many career path to choose from.
